We're a small team of designers and developers based in Shoreditch, London. We work with a variety of clients from startups to global banking institutions providing a range of services from user experience design and product realisation to web and mobile app development. We've been in the business since 2010. Our speciality is web development, both front and back-end, and in January 2015 we released our homegrown PHP framekit, Nails into the public domain.
Every project we undertake is unique and every client we work with requires a different approach. Our small size and network of trusted partners and freelancers enable us to offer flexibility and reliability. We offer a semi-agile iterative approach to project development, make use of some excellent tools such as Asana, Slack and CodeBase to both keep clients up to speed and enable them to interact directly with the team at all times.

We're currently looking for 2 talented individuals to join us in Shoreditch. We're a small, close-knit team and we don't have time for a formal hiring process. We're casual by nature, so get in touch with us by whatever means tickles your fancy: a postcard, a paper plane, an animated gif, crochet, a smoke signal - you name it
We're not incredibly fussy about your qualifications; some of the best people we know were self-taught. Being a good fit for our team and size is the most important factor.
We do not work with recruitment agencies, so please do not email us anonymous CVs or try to tempt us with free doughnuts and beer.

A talented, skilled and experienced PHP developer with a thirst for knowledge, who will help define dev processes and standards
Depending on your experience, you'll be leading back-end dev, working with and improving Nails, defining development processes and procedures
In January 2015, we released Nails - an opensource framekit for developers. Nails is both a framework and a toolkit, allowing for rapid development of PHP websites for pretty much any purpose. It comes with a range of modules that provide some out-of-the-box functionality such as a CMS module, E-commerce module and Blog module. Read more about Nails on the Nails Website, and read about how Nails has helped enhance some of our clients' businesses below.
Shed Collective have worked closely with this award-winning talent sourcing platform since 2010, building complex proprietary matching algorithms that carefully pair candidates with business and vice versa
This highly complex web application involved handling millions of data-points, with a high level of caching and performance optimisation. The platform has facilitated the hiring needs of many household brands and global businesses and continues to excel in its industry.
A visually simple website on first glance actually provides a vast array of complex custom features for various user groups, utilising numerous APIs and custom media processing tools throughout
An international shop supports multiple currencies, payment processors, VAT rates and products with varying VAT requirements; integrated forums and event management tools and streaming media via AWS with live editing facilities in the back-end. This complex website runs on a forked version of Nails due to its highly customised nature.
This simple brochure site with shop, blog and CMS was developed over the course of a year for award winning Scottish jeweller, Jane Gowans

Shed Collective developed the main brochure website for a global financial client in 2014. A heavily customised content management system supported by extensive security software and hardware
Developing systems that can withstand security breaches and attacks represented a unique challenge. This unique project allowed us to review the core security aspects of Nails and ultimately allowed us to improve security across the board.
21Pictures is a dating platform that matches single people based on their instincts. Shed Collective developed this complex website on Nails and plan to release a suite of client apps for various devices throughout 2015
The 21Pictures site involves matching and comparing millions of data-points, providing a real technical challenge. We invested a lot of time developing the database structures and matching algorithms, adopting a background workers approach to data processing, freeing up the front-end to serve content.
